Research Partnerships

Despite being only 40 years old, UMBC is a research institution with a sophisticated and mature approach to patenting inventions, commercializing technologies and collaborating with companies in innovative ways.

UMBC faculty are recognized by their peers as leading experts in their fields and have a track record of successful research partnerships with a broad range of companies. Supporting those relationships are the University’s Office of Sponsored Programs and the Office of Technology Development, who are committed to working quickly with corporate partners at the cutting edge of technology transfer.

UMBC also has one of the most successful science and technology incubators and research parks in Maryland that can provide an even deeper level of involvement with UMBC faculty.
The Corporate Relations Team will help you tap into UMBC’s research strengths and leverage University resources to create strategic partnerships that complement your own research agendas. We can:

  • Help connect you to faculty with unique skills and interests relevant to shared research;
  • Introduce you to UMBC’s talented faculty and extraordinary research capabilities;
  • Work with our Office of Technology Development to find innovative opportunities to transfer University-owned technology to your commercialization needs.

Please contact Greg Simmons, Associate Vice President, Development, at 410-455-1452 to find out how to get started.
